WHERE WE WORK

Nandri works with families in villages across Tamil Nadu in Southern India. The Tamil Nadu region has a population of over 77 million people which is greater than that of Ireland and The United Kingdom combined.

We work with Dalit people who live in extreme poverty in rural areas of the state.

Dalits work in rice paddies or vegetable and fruit fields owned by landlords earning less than 3 euro per day. This low wage, combined with the fact that they can only work an average of 10 days per month due to weather, keeps their families in poverty.

The health system in India is minimal and infant mortality is high at 63 deaths/1000 births compared with an average of 10 deaths/1000 births in the Western world. Nearly 12% of all children born in India will not live to see their first birthday.
