ORGANISATION

Nandri is the Tamil word for ‘Thank You’. The charity was founded by Tony Barron in 1996 to help Dalit children in Tamil Nadu. Since then Nandri has helped to educate over 5000 children.

Nandri in Ireland raises funds, both locally and internationally, to support the Nandri organisation in India who administer, coordinate and monitor all our programmes.

Nandri operates in Ireland mainly with volunteers who provide professional service and experience while keeping overheads to a minimum. Nandri operates in India with management, administrative staff and field workers.

HISTORY

Tony Barron founded Nandri in 1996. He was responsible for
the education of thousands of Dalit children. Tony organised the building
of schools, medical centres and provided ambulances and clean water to
many communities in Southern India.

Fred Crowe took over as CEO in 2010 and progressed the Income Generation Loan programme and the organisation of the Mothers Self Help Groups.

Fred and Tony were tireless workers in raising funds and bringing help and support to the Tamil Nadu region where we work.

Sadly In March 2017, Tony Barron died after a long illness. Fred Crowe passed away shortly after in 2019.

Nandri, in both Ireland and in India are committed to continue building on the great foundations they established.
